SHERR Spotlight Webinar Series 2024-25

We invite you to join the SHERR Spotlight Webinar Series on campus engagement with refugees. Webinars will feature higher education institutions and resettlement agencies working together to support refugees through innovations such as temporary campus housing, community-engaged learning, refugee health, English language and career programs, and increasing educational opportunities for refugee students.

Higher Education Partnerships in Refugee Health – December 5, 2024

This webinar showcased examples of refugee health partnerships between higher education institutions and refugee serving organizations to help meet refugee healthcare needs and improve health outcomes while achieving key educational goals. It was co-hosted with the Society of Refugee Healthcare Providers.


Campus Housing for Refugees – November 13, 2024

This webinar showcased examples of short-term campus transitional housing for non-student refugees and highlighted partnerships between higher education and resettlement organizations in support of these efforts. It was co-hosted with Refugee Housing Solutions.

Bringing the World to Campus through Refugee Resettlement – Opportunities for Student Service – October 24, 2024

This webinar showcased examples of service learning, volunteer, and internship opportunities for students to support refugee resettlement. It was co-hosted with Refugee Welcome Collective.

Campus Engagement with Refugees: Why and How? – September 18, 2024

On World Refugee Day 2024, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education co-signed a letter to colleges and universities in appreciation of resettlement efforts. This webinar provided an overview of the benefits to campuses of engagement with refugee resettlement and the types of engagement pathways available to institutions. Our speakers explained how involvement with refugees advances the mission of higher education institutions while providing urgent support and opportunities for refugees – both students and non-students.

Teaching English to Adult Refugees Certificate Program – April 2024

This interactive webinar was co-hosted by World Learning and SIT TESOL Center and SHERR and featured the upcoming Teaching English to Adult Refugees Certificate Program.

Higher Education Institutions & Opportunities to Promote Refugee Integration – March 2024

This webinar was hosted by SHERR consortium partner, Presidents Alliance for Higher Education and Immigration. It highlighted opportunities for colleges and universities to promote refugee integration through programs and grants offered through the Office of Refugee Resettlement. Current grantees of the Refugee Career Pathways program shared about their experience.

Higher Education and Refugee Resettlement – Opportunities for Action through SHERR”– February 2024

This webinar was presented jointly with the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC). SHERR panelists gave an overview of the current and aspirational engagement of U.S. colleges and universities in resettlement based on a 2023 needs assessment and shared the project’s resources and engagement pathways.

SHERR CoPAs and Resource Hub Launch – January 2024

This informative webinar was hosted by World Learning and served as the kick-off event for the SHERR Communities of Practice and Action, as well as the launch event for the Refugee Resource Hub.
