World Learning Selected as Program Partner for Princeton University's New Bridge Year Program

Will provide community-based development programs for Princeton students in both Ghana and Serbia.

BRATTLEBORO, VT (January 29, 2009) -- World Learning has been selected to run two of four pilot Bridge Year programs for Princeton University. The programs operated by World Learning will be in Ghana and Serbia, beginning in Fall 2009. Through Princeton's Bridge Year Program, World Learning will offer incoming Princeton students nine months of international community service experience before students begin their studies on campus.

"We are very pleased to be partnering with World Learning," said John Luria, director of Princeton's Bridge Year Program. "As a program partner, World Learning will contribute their experience in community development, civic engagement, and service learning with hopes of helping us deliver a rich and rewarding experience for students."

World Learning, through its undergraduate SIT Study Abroad and high school Experiment in International Living programs, will provide customized programs for a pilot group of ten Bridge Year students in Ghana and Serbia this Fall. Each program will involve the same core components, including community service placements, homestays with local families, language study, enrichment workshops, and cultural excursions. Examples of community service opportunities to be provided include helping at a center for street children in Accra, Ghana and serving with a youth organization promoting democracy and human rights in Novi Sad, Serbia. The program model draws upon World Learning's experiential learning approach and extensive in-country networks and institutional partnerships in the two program locations.

"We are deeply honored to have been selected to partner with Princeton in the launch of this bold initiative," said Adam Weinberg, Executive Vice President of World Learning and Provost of SIT. "We look forward to leveraging our more than 75 years of experience in international education in the service of this program."

More information, including application information, details about each location and answers to frequently asked questions, can be found on Princeton's admissions website.
