SIT Graduate Institute Begins a New Academic Year
BRATTLEBORO, VT (September 8, 2008) -- September has finally appeared and along with the promise of vibrant foliage and apple picking, comes the arrival of the new graduate students to SIT Graduate Institute in Brattleboro. The SIT campus welcomes 205 students: 43 Masters of Art in Teaching (MAT) and 161 Masters in the Program of Intercultural Service, Leadership, and Management (PIM). Representing 38 countries, about a quarter of these arrivals are international students or permanent residents. This year’s incoming class brings with it a wealth of knowledge and experience; the 2008 class reports knowing 83 languages and contains 19 Peace Corps volunteers, 14 Americorps alumni, and 14 former participants on SIT Study Abroad programs. This class has also been very active on the PIM and MAT admissions blogs, which both started in fall of 2007. The PIM admissions blog has received around 22,000 hits to date. You can visit the PIM Admissions blog here, and the MAT Admissions blog here.
The campus also welcomes two new visiting faculty members: Adrian Sherman in the Master of Arts in International Education program and John Vogelsang in the Master of Science in Management program. Adrian has 15 years experience in International Education as an administrator. He is a long-time member of NAFSA and has given many presentations at both national and regional conferences as well as worked as a mentor for the NAFSA academy. John has been working in the non-profit world for over 30 years. He is currently connected with the Support Center for Non-Profit Management in New York City and is a Senior Fellow at the Michael Harrington Center, Queens College, CUNY.
General arrival for students was on September 2nd and orientation starts that afternoon. The Fall I term begins today with MATs taking part in an intensive language learning experience and PIMs participating in a course on multicultural team development.
